Barbara Ercolano is an astrophysicist and professor for Theoretical Astrophysics at Ludwig-Maximilians University, Munich. Her research interests focus on star and planet formation, interstellar medium evolution and enrichment, as well as computational methods and radiative transfer. She leads a research unit awarded by the German Science Foundation (DFG) to study “Transition Discs as witnesses and probes of planet formation”.

Barbara Ercolano received her PhD in Astrophysics from University College London (UCL), UK. Before she became professor in Munich, she did postdoctoral research at UCL, at the Center for Astrophysics Harvard & Smithsonian, USA, and the University of Cambridge, UK, and worked as a lecturer in astrophysics at the University of Exeter, UK.

As of June 2024, she is a member of the HITS Scientific Advisory Board.
