On Thursday, 12 October 2023, HITS welcomed a school class from the Hebel-Gymnasium Schwetzingen at Studio Villa Bosch. The occasion was one of the last major field testings of the “Habitable” board game before its final release. The game was created by members of the Stellar Evolution Theory (SET) group and has been thoroughly tested by numerous individuals. It is now taking the final steps. Eva Laplace, Dandan Wei, Vincent Bronner, Jan Henneco, Julian Saling and Simon Speith supervised around 30 students aged 15-16 while playing the game at HITS. The students provided the members of the SET group with valuable feedback which will help, putting the finishing touches on the game.
“Habitable” made the teenagers ponder what exactly it means to make a planet livable and why this matter concerns all of us these days. The next step will be the online version of the game which is going to be available soon.
HITS, the Heidelberg Institute for Theoretical Studies, was established in 2010 by physicist and SAP co-founder Klaus Tschira (1940-2015) and the Klaus Tschira Foundation as a private, non-profit research institute. HITS conducts basic research in the natural, mathematical, and computer sciences. Major research directions include complex simulations across scales, making sense of data, and enabling science via computational research. Application areas range from molecular biology to astrophysics. An essential characteristic of the Institute is interdisciplinarity, implemented in numerous cross-group and cross-disciplinary projects. The base funding of HITS is provided by the Klaus Tschira Foundation.
