This spring, a special project is blossoming: SIMPLAIX, a collaboration of HITS with Heidelberg University and the KIT. The three partner institutions are jointly tackling the challenges of simulating biomolecules and molecular materials at different scales. The first results of this collaboration will be presented at the “SIMPLAIX” workshop at Studio Villa Bosch.
A group of young astrophysicists had a prize-worthy idea for the Science Year “Our Universe:” For their board game “Habitable” they were awarded as one of the best 15 communication ideas on the topic of outer space.
A new standardized exchange format for data on enzyme reactions was co-developed by HITS researchers. It provides a seamless communication channel between experimental platforms, electronic lab books, tools, platforms and enzymatic reaction databases.
In our section “Beyond the Limits”, we feature astrophysicist Sarbani Basu (Yale University), who was the second Klaus Tschira Guest Professor at HITS last fall.
HITS, the Heidelberg Institute for Theoretical Studies, was established in 2010 by physicist and SAP co-founder Klaus Tschira (1940-2015) and the Klaus Tschira Foundation as a private, non-profit research institute. HITS conducts basic research in the natural, mathematical, and computer sciences. Major research directions include complex simulations across scales, making sense of data, and enabling science via computational research. Application areas range from molecular biology to astrophysics. An essential characteristic of the Institute is interdisciplinarity, implemented in numerous cross-group and cross-disciplinary projects. The base funding of HITS is provided by the Klaus Tschira Foundation.
