They did it again – and this time they joined forces with colleagues across the Klaus Tschira Foundation: The HITS cycling team 2021 with team captain Stefan Richter (Molecular and Cellular Modeling group) achieved an impressive 19th rank out of 78 participating teams in this year’s City Cycling Challenge Heidelberg on 4-24 July. In the category kilometers per person, they even ranked 6th with 299 kilometers per cyclist. Congratulations to the 16 team members also for saving more than 700 kg of C02 this way.
Overall, this year’s challenge saw more than 1,700 local participants who cycled 361,825 km. But the initiative is more than just a competition. The main objectives are to draw greater attention to cycling in the public discourse and to improve the local cycling infrastructure in general.
More about the City Cycling Challence in Heidelberg.
HITS, the Heidelberg Institute for Theoretical Studies, was established in 2010 by physicist and SAP co-founder Klaus Tschira (1940-2015) and the Klaus Tschira Foundation as a private, non-profit research institute. HITS conducts basic research in the natural, mathematical, and computer sciences. Major research directions include complex simulations across scales, making sense of data, and enabling science via computational research. Application areas range from molecular biology to astrophysics. An essential characteristic of the Institute is interdisciplinarity, implemented in numerous cross-group and cross-disciplinary projects. The base funding of HITS is provided by the Klaus Tschira Foundation.
