HITS Group Leader Anna Wienhard (Groups and Geometry) has been awarded an ERC Advanced Grant of the European Research Council (ERC) for her project on symmetries in mathematics. The project, for which she will receive approximately two million euros, will run over a period of five years – congratulations, Anna!
Our research news focuses on new methods for drug development against COVID-19 and a newopen-source tool and benchmark to assess the quality of scientific software in terms of compliance with coding standards.
Finally, we continue our series “behind the science”, in which we portray the HITS shareholders. For this issue, we have interviewed Jörg Pross, Vice-Rector for Research at Heidelberg University.
HITS, the Heidelberg Institute for Theoretical Studies, was established in 2010 by physicist and SAP co-founder Klaus Tschira (1940-2015) and the Klaus Tschira Foundation as a private, non-profit research institute. HITS conducts basic research in the natural, mathematical, and computer sciences. Major research directions include complex simulations across scales, making sense of data, and enabling science via computational research. Application areas range from molecular biology to astrophysics. An essential characteristic of the Institute is interdisciplinarity, implemented in numerous cross-group and cross-disciplinary projects. The base funding of HITS is provided by the Klaus Tschira Foundation.
