Congratulations to our SIMPLAIX Principal Investigator Pascal Friederich (KIT) on the award of the Manfred Fuchs Prize 2025 for his outstanding research in materials science, using AI for the computational design of new chemical compounds.

The prize is awarded to particularly qualified young academics who build bridges between different academic cultures.

Pascal Friederich is Tenure-track Professor at KIT’s Institute of Theoretical Informatics (ITI) and associated group leader at the Institute of Nanotechnology (INT). He heads the research group AiMat (Artificial Intelligence for Materials Sciences), and, since October 2021, is one of the Principal Investigators in the SIMPLAIX collaboration, where he participates in seven out of eight projects.

The Manfred Fuchs Prize has been awarded by the Heidelberg Academy of Sciences and Humanities since 2015 and is endowed with 10,000 euros. Read more here (in German): https://www.hadw-bw.de/manfred-fuchs-preis_pascal_friederich

About HITS

HITS, the Heidelberg Institute for Theoretical Studies, was established in 2010 by physicist and SAP co-founder Klaus Tschira (1940-2015) and the Klaus Tschira Foundation as a private, non-profit research institute. HITS conducts basic research in the natural, mathematical, and computer sciences. Major research directions include complex simulations across scales, making sense of data, and enabling science via computational research. Application areas range from molecular biology to astrophysics. An essential characteristic of the Institute is interdisciplinarity, implemented in numerous cross-group and cross-disciplinary projects. The base funding of HITS is provided by the Klaus Tschira Foundation.
