On January 29, 2014, Dr. Christoph Pfrommer (TAP-Group) successfully completed the habilitation process at the Department of Physics and Astronomy of Heidelberg University. Christoph’s research interests include High-Energy Astrophysics as well as Cosmology, Computational Astrophysics, and Radio- and Gamma-Ray Astronomy. It is the first habilitation attained by a HITSter.
Pfrommers career steps: 1996 Physics studies at the University of Jena, 1999/2000 Graduate Studies in Harvard, diploma thesis at the Max Planck Institute for Astrophysics in Garching near Munich, 2002 Physics diploma in Jena, 2005 Ph.D. from LMU Munich, 2005-2010 Postdoc and research associate at the Canadian Institute for Theoretical Astrophysics in Toronto. In 2010, Christoph Pfrommer joined the TAP group at HITS as a senior researcher
HITS, the Heidelberg Institute for Theoretical Studies, was established in 2010 by physicist and SAP co-founder Klaus Tschira (1940-2015) and the Klaus Tschira Foundation as a private, non-profit research institute. HITS conducts basic research in the natural, mathematical, and computer sciences. Major research directions include complex simulations across scales, making sense of data, and enabling science via computational research. Application areas range from molecular biology to astrophysics. An essential characteristic of the Institute is interdisciplinarity, implemented in numerous cross-group and cross-disciplinary projects. The base funding of HITS is provided by the Klaus Tschira Foundation.
